School Snacks and Drinks

At St John's, we want school to be the healthiest possible environment for our pupils. To support this, we encourage healthy eating and drinking at snack/break times, during lunch times and throughout the school day.

In our EYFS classrooms, all children can access fresh water and milk throughout the day, as well as a daily portion of fruit/veg alongside additional healthy snacks.

In KS1, children are provided with a daily piece of fruit/veg during their breaktimes. Milk can be ordered through the cool milk scheme, and children have access to fresh water as needed. Children are welcome to bring further drinks in, but we ask that these are bottles of water only.

In KS2, children have access to fresh water all day and milk and can still be ordered through the cool milk scheme. Again we encourage children to bring their own drinks bottles, but only containing water (no juice, cordials, fizzy, sugary or energy drinks). KS2 children are also welcome to bring in their own snacks to eat during playtimes. We ask that these are either a portion of fruit or vegetables.

For ideas on healthy snacks, please see the guidance below:

Packed Lunches

Packed lunches should be in a secure named container.  We encourage lots of fruit and/or vegetables.  Water is available on all tables for children who choose a packed lunch. However, your child can bring their own drink in a non-breakable container – please avoid any fizzy, sugary or energy drinks.
