Autumn Term 1
Welcome back and welcome to Class 4.
Our maths this half term will mainly focus on number skills and place value, as we build our confidence working with bigger numbers and consolidate and extend our rapid recall of times table and number bond facts.
In English we will use George’s Marvellous Medicine as an inspiration for writing, as well as focusing on identifying and naming words according to the job they do in the sentence (word classes). We are also looking forward to National Poetry Day (28th September) and will be working on the theme of “Freedom”.
In science we will be developing our understanding of sound, finding out about how it travels, how we can change sounds and how we hear sounds..
In geography we are studying North and South America with a particular focus on Jamaica. We will be learning about its people, climate and economy as well as identifying locations using maps. This will link to our music and our art looking at Jamaican abstract art.
Our PE will be led by Stockport County coaches on a Thursday and in our teacher-led session we will be building on our teamwork skills .
In RE we will be looking at the different faith groups within our community, including an introductory exploration of Humanism. We will also be preparing to lead the whole school Harvest service at church on 20th October.
The week beginning October 6th will be Healthy Schools week with a whole week of special and exciting activities to help us keep healthy in both mind and body, including our annual visit from Freddy Fit, which is guaranteed to get us off to a flying start.
